Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe, Reliable, Maintainable and delivered on time. LCE consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, our program offices and our customers. Our LCE disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation. Our focus area is product support, including the following disciplines: Reliability System Safety and Supportability.
Job Summary

This job is based in Tucson, AZ
What You Will Do
- Classify hazardous materials in accordance with DoD 4500.9-R, 49 CFR, IATA, IMDG, and UN guidelines.
- Prepare and verify shipping documents including DD Form 2890, Shipper’s Declaration for Dangerous Goods, and electronic manifests.
- Ensure packaging complies with MIL-STD-129, MIL-STD-2073, and UN specifications.
- Perform inspections of outbound/inbound shipments to confirm proper labeling, spaning, and segregation.
- Coordinate transportation via military and commercial carriers, ensuring secure and compliant routing.
- Monitor and maintain records within DoD logistics systems (e.g., GATES, GTN, WPS, TMS).
- Conduct or assist in hazardous materials incident response planning and drills.
- Maintain compliance with safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Collaborate with security personnel to implement risk-based transportation security plans.
- Provide guidance to internal teams and external carriers regarding hazmat handling procedures
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
- Experience with logistics, operations, or supply chain.
- Familiarization with explosives handling, storage, and transportation
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Skills & Certifications
- Technical writing
- Efficient in Microsoft Excel and Word to create Technical Reports
- Capable of resourcing information from multiple teams to create Technical Reports
- Extreme attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication

Qualifications We Prefer
- Familiar with the DOT Hazard Classification System and Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulation (49 CFR)
- Knowledge of different types of Dangerous Goods (Explosives, gasses, Lithium batteries, etc.)
- Capable of reading engineering documents e.g. schematics
- Experience with writing accurate technical reports, ideally experience with writing hazard classification requests (Interim and/or final hazard classification request to the DOD or DOT).
- Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Familiar with Technical Bulletin (TB)-700 for transportation and hazard classification within the DoD
- Working knowledge of 49 CFR, DOD 4500.9-R, IATA, IMDG, and/or ICAO regulations

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
