We are currently hiring a Mechanical Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) to join the Advanced Airframes Department of the Hardware organization located in Tucson, Arizona. You will provide engineering support for the Specter portfolio with a focus on the Payload assembly. This role involves cross functional and program collaboration and understanding of Payload technologies. The Payload REA is responsible for the mechanical design and integration activities within the portfolio.
You will be collaborating and coordinating with Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, and other Engineering disciplines to resolve issues.
What You Will Do
- Responsible for leading the day-to-day mechanical tasks in order to execute on the Specter portfolio delivering Payload systems and components
- Coordinates closely with the Program leadership on priorities, effective communication of issues, and schedule impacts and resolutions
- Coordinate, write, and deliver technical briefs to both internal and external customers typically in CCB and ERB forums
- Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
What You Will Learn
- Lead a small mechanical team with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.
- Develop and maintain formal technical data package generation (engineering drawings, models)
- Support suppliers with product integration
- Perform and review tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function are as intended by design for the use-application.
- Improve new and existing designs using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Producibility principles.
- Work with suppliers for component part selections and developments to procure solutions that fit within design constraints and requirements
- Participate and lead design peer reviews, resolve action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 2 years of prior engineering experience
- Experience in Payload technologies
Qualifications We Prefer
- Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science, Math, or other Engineering disciplines
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), basic tolerance analyses, and drawing practices and interpretation for mechanical hardware
- Experience in mechanical design, development, and/or test, preferably of defense-related components or systems
- DoD Secret or Top-Secret Clearance

- Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.
The salary range for this role is 66,000 USD - 130,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
