Summary

Provides services for the 532nd Commodities Maintenance Squadron (CMMXS) at the 309th Commodities Maintenance Group (CMXG), Depot On-Site Contract Augmentee Teams 5 (DOCAT5), Hill AFB, UT. Support includes the technical repair and overhaul of landing gear, fuel tanks, pylons, screw jacks, hydraulics,

and pneudraulics for the following platforms:

C-5, C-17, C-130, B-1B, B-2, B-52, KC-135, A-10, T-38, E-2, E-3, F-4, F-15, F-16, F-22, F-35, MH-53, and MH-60 in accordance with the Air Force technical directives, applicable technical data, and federal contract requirements.

Machinist, Maintenance personnel support landing-gear technical repair, wheels, brakes, and overhaul mission including, but not limited to, the C-5, C-17, C-130, B-1B, B-2, B-52, KC-135, A-10, T-38, E-2, E-3, F-4, F-15, F-16, F-22, F-35, MH-53, and MH-60 platforms.

Machinist shall interpret written instructions, technical data, engineering drawings, and specifications to plan and lay out machining operations required for the fabrication, restoration, and modification of landing‑gear components. The Machinist shall use machinist hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and standard machine tools—including lathes, mills, grinders, Computer Numerical Control (CNC), and related equipment—to produce metal parts to the close tolerances required for aircraft landing‑gear systems. The Machinist shall perform machining computations involving dimensions, tolerances, feeds, speeds, and tooling requirements; apply knowledge of the working properties of common metals; and select appropriate materials, parts, and equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks. The Machinist shall fit, assemble, and verify the proper function of machined components within landing‑gear assemblies and ensure all work complies with applicable technical orders, safety requirements, and quality standards. The Machinist shall provide personnel with comprehensive machine‑shop training, typically obtained through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent experience, to ensure all machining operations meet mission requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Perform complex aircraft maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, repair, and modification
  • Document maintenance actions in aircraft logs and approved maintenance systems
  • Ensure compliance with Tool Control, FOD, safety, and quality programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Duties

  • Technical Directive compliance and modifications
  • Support Equipment (SE) operation and inspections
  • Interpret technical manuals, drawings, and directives
  • Troubleshoot and repair aircraft systems
  • Document maintenance actions per AFI requirements

Qualifications

  • Must have three (3) years related maintenance experience and should have experience guiding/instructing/mentoring less experienced technicians.
  • Must be well versed in use of manual lathes, mills, grinders and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) related equipment
  • Must be able to work, day, swing or mid shift as required
  • Depot “D” Level experience preferred
  • Favorable Tier 3 Investigation if required and CAC required

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation, including lifting up to 50 lbs., standing and walking for extended periods, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined or elevated spaces. Requires sufficient manual dexterity and vision to use tools and inspect aircraft systems. Must be able to work in high-noise environments, wear required PPE, and work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Compensation

  • $29.78/hour + $2.65 H&W
